Short and Layered Hair
Short and layered hair is on the forefront of the cat walks this
year. From super short and funky to short and spunky with plenty of
layers cut or chunked in. The majority of you can wear a short layered
style and enjoy the “no fuss, be ready in 5 minutes” lifestyle it
affords. It’s easy to work with. The short layered look, thanks to
mousse and other styling aids, have layers that can lay this way and
that way while pumping up the volume. If you are growing out a bad hair
cut or if hair has been through the ringer in regards to super hot
styling aids, why not consider giving it a healthy break and a head
start on the road to recovery? Your hair sometimes cries for a trim or
super cutting. Are you listening?
Another plus of short hair is the way it maximizes your beautiful
eyes, full lips, chiseled cheek bones and sleek nose. Whatever your best
attribute is, there is a style that will showcase what you feel is the
most attractive feature of your face. Layering your hair, depending on
the style you choose, can frame your face in wispy details with a soft
fringe or a bold sharp edge in the bangs by chipping them out. The
layers throughout the hair add depth and interest and, though it’s a bit
of an illusion, a glaze or gloss applied to the hair once the cut is
established will bring out even more of the style you are sporting.
There are several short layered hair cuts to consider. The more round
a cut makes your face look, the more complimentary and elegant your
total look will be. Have a look at these:
- Sliding haircut: This cut requires taking the hair in 4 sections
and starting with the back of the hair, cutting it at a 20 degree
angle. As the cut transitions over the ear, the height in this area
serves as a guide in trimming the sides and the bangs. This creates
the layered look in a soft way and can appear to be basically one
length with the layers not being the focal point.
- The graduated bob: This is created much in the same fashion but
the degree that the hair is cut in the back is radically different.
With the bob, the cut is a 90 degree angle then proceeds as
described earlier.

- The angled bob: A haircut that has been termed in the USA as the
Rihanna bob is sectioned in 4 parts. It is then cut to the center in
the back at a 90 degree angle. A very edgy and hot look, it’s one
you may want to consider!
- Blended elevation: The top section of the hair, where the bob is
essentially created, is cut at a 90 degree angle. The sides are then
cut at a 180 degree to the length of the top of the bob. The nape
(back of the neck) is then cut at a 90 degree angle. This form of
layering elevates the hair and then blends into the sides creating a
soft and romantic look.
- Reverse graduation: This is created by doing 6 sections and
cutting the bob at a 90 degree angle. The rest of the sections are
done at a 180 angle. Medium wavy hair can work well with this style
but curly hair is not as suitable.
